Veterans' Programs

Veteran's Programs

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." - George Washington

There are many benefits for veterans and members of the armed forces administered by State and Federal offices. In addition, there are numerous organizations dedicated to the support of veterans. We encourage you to visit the web links listed below to look for benefits or services that may be applicable to you.

Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs

The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs helps connect veterans and their family members to the benefits and services they earned through their military service.

U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs

The goal of US Department of Veterans Affairs is to provide excellence in patient care, veterans' benefits and customer satisfaction. The department's employees continue to offer their dedication and commitment to help veterans get the services they have earned.

Suicide Prevention

The Veterans Crisis Line connects Veterans in crisis and their families and friends with qualified, caring Department of Veterans Affairs responders through a confidential toll-free hotline and online chat. If you are feeling distressed or hopeless, thinking about death or wanting to die, or, if you are concerned about someone who may be suicidal, please contact The Veterans Crisis Line website or 1-800-273-TALK (8255) Veterans Press 1.

Make the Connection

Make the Connection is the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ national public awareness campaign that features true stories of Veterans who have faced and overcome challenges. Veterans’ unscripted and candid testimonials highlight the strength and resilience of those who have served our country, and demonstrate paths to leading fulfilling lives.

Wounded Warrior Project

Veterans for America's (VFA) Wounded Warrior Outreach Program is concerned with the staggeringly high levels of mental health problems and neurological injuries experienced by today's troops, and the lack of resources and rehabilitative programs available for our wounded. Members of the military desperately need a voice, and Veterans for America's Wounded Warrior Outreach Program provides it.

PTSD Support

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a disorder that occurs after a life-threatening event, such as personal assault, natural disaster, or military combat. The affects of PTSD can be debilitating with symptoms ranging from severe nightmares and flashbacks to insomnia and increasing social isolation. It is common for servicemembers to deal with post-combat depression, insomnia, nightmares and family issues; however, it is the duration and intensity that differentiates PTSD. Each military branch has programs for its servicemembers, and the Department of Veterans Affairs offers free counseling sessions. For more information on PTSD or VA assistance, go to PTSD Support's website.

Hiring Our Heroes

In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with a network of 1600 state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, the goal was to create a movement across America in hundreds of local communities where veterans and military families return every day.
