Temporary Authorization to remain in the United States is granted to a Soldier’s family members who are approved for Parole in Place. This temporary authorization (Parole) is granted in increments of one year and protects the individual from removal/deportation**.

Parole also grants eligibility to apply for work authorization which can lead to an issuance of a social security number and also enable one to apply for a driver license in many states.

PIP grants the family member evidence of parole status – a form I-94.

Eligibility for Adjustment of Status to Lawful Permanent Residency requires individuals to have been “inspected, admitted, or paroled.” Individuals can use this I-94 to satisfy this requirement. While other requirements still apply, Military Parole in Place is still an incredible utility to protect families from deportation and set them on the path to obtaining a Green Card.
